Chase Jarvis is my hero.

I think I have posted something about iPhone pictures in that past but this article about Chase Jarvis and the way he photographs using his iPhone blew me away! I love having an iPhone and I love using it for simple photos here and there to share with friends but after reading this and seeing the work he did, I am challenged to use my camera phone more and seeing what I can achieve. I encourage those of you with iPhones to do the same!

Multimedia II Final Project

Here is a little humorous video about my time in school and what a photography student does, in short. Enjoy!

25 of the Best Photographer Portfolio Websites

Here is a cool website of the Top 25 Photography Portfolio Websites. There are some awesome links in here.

Coming to an End!

Thank goodness my 5th quarter here in the Gwinnett Technical College Photography program is coming to an end tomorrow! It was a great and challenging quarter, I'll miss it just a little. It's been a stressful past few weeks but everything has come together nicely. Today's critique of my Glamour Portrait and Environmental Portrait went well. Now I just need to prepare myself for next quarter.

Multimedia Class Project

Here is a little project that my multimedia class put together in about an hour on Wednesday. We had a lot of fun with it in preparation for our final!

Bryan Peterson

This guy seems to be able to make anything look awesome. I wish everyone in photography has such a creative eye as his. It's pretty awesome!

Glamour Photography

This article pretty much sums up the idea behind glamour photography: What is it, what it's not, and how to achieve it without making it look "pornographic." It's interesting and definitely a good article to learn from.

Photoshop mess ups.

I found a website that makes fun of Photoshop disasters. Some the images are pretty funny and you can see just how careless people can get with photoshop. I guess now I know why Mr. Jones (a multimedia teacher at Gwinnett Technical College) is on us all the time about paying attention to detail!

Demi Moore body swap? Yes or no?

Apparently when this picture was taken you could see a bit too much of the model. They took it a little too far with Photoshop and now it just looks awkward.

Tuesday, December 1, 2009

Being that we're getting deeper into wedding photography, I thought this was appropriate:

It's a little long but it's a great video so if you can pay attention for about 6 minutes, you should watch the whole thing.
You can also go to the website and view more.

Holiday Portraits have come to an end!

It's a little bitter sweet that holiday portraits at Gwinnett Tech are over. We all worked really hard and came out on the top in the end. Although there were some difficult times in the process of set building, the upper quarter pulled it together and made things awesome! Well done everyone, you should all be proud.

John and Ms. Finch weren't there today so we had to improvise with the pictures. A photographer is all about problem solving! Haha

There's more to Photography than just...photography.

I came across this interesting website that lists all kinds of photography that one can go into. I thought it was pretty neat and would probably be helpful for those of you that do not know what they want to do after you finish the Photography Program here at Gwinnett Technical College.

Slightly disappointed.

As you've guessed by now, there was no Photo Walk on Sunday. Only one person from our class got back to me about going. I couldn't pull it all off on my own with 20 or so Lower Quarter students. Hopefully next time I will get a better interest and response from the Upper Quarter.

In other news, this quarter at Gwinnett Technical College is coming to an end. 5 down, 3 to go! Woo! We're almost there, hang in there and keep up the good work!

Dang.

The Canon 1D Mark III is an insane camera! This video pretty much explains everything that I would write down so I will let you see for yourself. Who cares about the weight, it's quality is priceless!

Awesome!

I have to direct everyone who is reading this to Brett May's photography blog. He showed me this video that he did with photos a few days ago and I was amazed! It's awesome and he worked really hard on it. Maybe one day when I have 9 hours to spare i'll do something cool like he did.

Photo Walk, for real this time!

Just wanted to remind everyone reading this the Photo Walk will be taking place on Sunday November 29th at 2:00pm. We will be meeting in the Barnes and Noble parking lot on Moreland avenue. Feel free to bring friends, models, whoever. We will separate into groups and just start walking and taking photos. It will be a fun day and I hope you all can make it out! If you have questions or need directions, let me know!

My Top 10

Here is a short video of my Top 10 Pictures from 5th Quarter at Gwinnett Technical College. I just chose the 10 that I like the most so far.

More "fashion" shots

If you read my blog you know that I went to Atlanta with a friend of mine and we did some fashion/glamour shots for an assignment that I have at school. This is another one of the pictures that I thought turned out pretty nice.

Also, while we were down there I met a photographer who has a studio in a Atlanta. Super nice guy. His name is Nathan Bolster. Definitely go check out his work! He does some cool work with contrast and there are some neat High Key images he has done too.

Good Day

I got the privilege of working with Jeanne today who works in the surgical department at school today. She was such an awesome participant in the environmental shoot and she made it a a lot of fun. I think I got some pretty good shots, Mrs. Harkins sort of intimidated me when she walk in on the shoot, I wont lie. I hope I made her proud.

Busy Busy day of Environmental Portraits

Yeah, that's Rebekah looking like she's about to go under the knife.

Testing the light for Rebekah's shoot.

Brett getting his set ready.

Today was a good day! Brett, Rebekah, and I got to shoot our environmental pictures for Harkins class and they all turned out really good. I think that we each had really fun people to work with so it made it a lot of fun. Not to mention, the three of us worked pretty well together. Rebekah got to be a "prop" in Brett's scene and it was awesome!

Fashion Shoot...Sort of.

My friend Leah let me use her as my model for my fashion shoot today. It turned into more of just a fun shoot but I think I got some that I may be able to use for my assignment. She did great and was such a good sport. All in all, it was a productive and very fun day of shooting!

Ban Photoshop?

I found this video about the debate over banning photoshop in the media. It's a touchy subject. One one side I can agree why it would be banned because in MANY photos you've got a false image where magazines are concerned. On the other hand, photoshop, in a sense, was made to make things look their best whether it be people or places. What are your thoughts?

Another Featured Artist

I saw Rebekah looking at this guys work the other day in class and I decided to check it out for myself. His name is Jeremy Cowart and he's pretty awesome, I can't lie. He does crazy things with texture and light, not to mention his candid stuff is great too. Definitely go check him out!

Photo Fun Day

Rebekah and I went out to shoot today, just for fun. We had originally planned on shooting my Fashion assignment but my model bailed so we just went out shooting for the afternoon with some friends. I think we got some pretty cool shots but most of all, we had fun. We're all going back to Atlanta tomorrow to do it again. Woo!

Photo Essay

It's photo essay time in Photojournalism. I got my idea approved this morning and it's a relief. I found this photo essay about breast cancer TIME magazine did and  I thought was pretty moving. Let's hope I can do half this good.

Veterans Day

We've all seen this famous image in numerous places. It's just a little reminder to remember the Veterans on this day. This photo is about the only photography related thing about this particular blog but what an image it is!

Fill Flash Fun

So, Rebekah, Sarah, and I went out fill flash experimenting in my back yard yesterday afternoon. We had some ups and downs but it's all about "problem solving." We came close to getting it right but we'll definitely be going out and trying again. We had fun learning though, for sure. A sunny day may help next time too.

Fred Lebain

My boyfriend showed me this photographers work and it's one of the neatest things that I have seen done. His name is Fred Lebain and he will go to a location one day and take a photograph, then go back a few days later with a poster size image from the previous shoot. While he stands behind that photo, holding it up...this is what you get: Awesome!

Aperture

So, I'm not sure if any of you have used the program Aperture yet but I was reading up on it today and know some people that use it and it seems pretty legit. It has all of the organizational tools that iPhoto and even Light Room have with all the added bonus editing stuff. I may try and use it and see how it works. Any advice? Yay or nay?

iPhone Photos

Who new that a 3 megapixel phone camera could take such awesome pictures? I found this website that shows the top 100 pictures taken from none other than the iPhone. Another reason why I love having one...

Thursday, November 5, 2009

help!

Ok, I am having a tough time deciding on which photo to print for my Low Key assignment. My teacher chose a few of the ones that I shot and I have narrowed it down to these two. I am leaning toward the close up shot but Rebekah, the girl in the photo is leaning the other way. I like them both but now I need your opinion. Help!

Pregnancy Photography

Jennifer Loomis is one of my favorite pregnancy photographers. There is something about photographing pregnancy that I love. I think it's a really amazing thing to capture so I like to shoot it as much as I can. This photo is from a shoot I did with a close friend of mine a few months back. I enjoy it, I hope you do too.

Gregory Foster

We talked about this photographer, Gregory Foster, in class today and Ms. Finch nailed it when she said his lighting work is beautiful. He uses one or two lights with his fill flash, easy techniques to light his subjects to make them look awesome.

It's beginning to look at lot like Christmas. A Dr. Seuss one.

It's all starting to come together!

Our nice little boxes we decorated!

Working working working.

I have to admit, I was little skeptical of our set for Holiday Portraits when we first got started. I think some people were on one page while others where in a different book. But today, after some changes here and there, everything started coming together and we're all really excited about what the end result will be! I hope a lot of people come out this year and have fun with our "Dr. Seuss Christmas."
I would link the photos to my Flickr but I took them with my iPhone. Yes, sad I know, but it's all I had on me at the time.

Fun Photo Stuff

This is a nice little article called "16 Inspirational Portrait Photography Techniques." Being that we're doing a lot of portrait stuff right now, I found it educational as well as interesting. There are some rules to be broken and this tells you how (over exposing/under exposing, backlighting). Simply put, I like it.

Joey Lawrence

Joey Lawrence, wow. That's really the only word I have to describe his work. His creativity and his vision blows me away! The images and moments that he captures are ones that I could only hope of capturing half as well as he does. And he's not even 21! Crazy.

The joys of Photojournalism...

I wanted to fall in love with Photojournalism but so far it's just been a pain and I am starting to get pretty discouraged. Ugh! I will keep truckin' though. I am determined to do well with this class. If I could chose my own "feature" it'd be this one and I would call it a job done. But that's not the case. I wish myself better luck tomorrow when Rebekah and I go out and feature find.

You Mac Lovers

Yes, it's true, there is new 27" Mac. I have seen it and it's a-mazing. It would be perfect for editing photos. Yes, the 24" we use at school now are great but how great would 3 more inches be? Pretty great and most definitely helpful!

Mohamed Ebaid

I found this photographer and a video of their work. Some of the images are pretty awesome so I thought I would share. Simple yet elegant.

Time Lapse Photography

I seem to be drawn to videos of this nature. I may have to try and do one myself. They're so fun!

"Falling Soldier" doubts.

We've all seen this picture by Robert Capa. I'm pretty sure it's in the Photojournalism book that we use but if not, I'm still sure that we've all seen it and talked about it. According this article in the Art and Design section of the New York Times, it's possibly a fake! The article itself is pretty interesting to read and see how the photo is dissected by critics.

Looking for a new camera?

For those of you looking for a new camera or if you just want to compare the one you already have to others, I found a good website for doing just that. It shows you the top 10 SLR cameras as well as point and shoot cameras if you want one of those too. You can read reviews of people who use the camera and also read ratings about the quality of each camera. Something cool to look at if you're looking to buy a new camera...

Contest Contest Contest

I know that not all of you are interested in submitting your work into contests but I found this one with Smithsonian Magazine and thought it looked pretty neat and possibly rewarding! You should all check it out. Good luck!

Masters of Photography

I found this video and thought that it was pretty neat to look at. The photographers are awesome an the images are even better!

Yay or Nay?

Here's an interesting article for you to read up on. "Small Cameras, Big Sensors, Serious Challenges." What do you think? Are these cameras worth the hassle?

Tim Harman

Ever since I saw Tim Harman's work from a friend of mines wedding, I've been hooked on his work and I swear, one day he will shoot my wedding! His wedding photography blows me away with it's cleanliness and flat out awesome style. He never misses a moment; at least it seems that way from his photos. I would love to be half as good as he is by the time I get out of the photography program!

'Tis the Season

Holiday Portrait set-up is in full swing! Things have been a bit hectic the past few days in the studio building the set and starting to get things prepared in the few weeks we have. I took a trip to Home Depot this morning with Deanna, Rebekah, and Kala to pick up supplies that they have generously donated to us in order for our set to looks it's best. Next time you're there be sure to thank them for everything that I have done to help us out. Without them we'd have nearly no supplies. Keep up the great work everyone! I know this set will rock when we're finished!

Happy Birthday!

I got finished with my Child Portraits just in time for Dylan's 1st birthday tomorrow! He and I share the same birthday so it was a nice little treat to get to do a photo shoot with him today. He did better than I could have ever asked him to and the pictures turned out great. I have some awesome ones of him enjoying the cake! Happy Birthday!

Ah, the joys of the Pinhole Camera.

For the Lower Quarter Students in photography at Gwinnett Tech, it's Pinhole time! This is where they have to make their own camera using simple supplies. The sky is the limit as long as the container stays light tight in order to get an exposure. I came across a pretty neat one the other day made by Allison Evans. Check it out.

Epic

I probably jumped on this bandwagon a little late but apparently a number of Ansel Adams' negatives were found at a garage sale and are now of the last to be authenticated. How would you like to be the one to stumble across something so great at a garage sale? Better yet, how would you feel knowing you were the one who sold them?!

Whatever we're doing is working!

I'm not one to Google my name but as I was reading some other blogs, laying in bed with Bronchitis, I sawthat a lot of people have started to see where their name falls on the Google totem poll. I gave it a shot and I am the first one on the list! Woo! I guess that means this little web of ours is working. Keep up the great work guys! We're all in this to help each other.

A true example of photojournalism

When I think of photojournalism and what it means, this picture by Pieter Ten Hoopen sticks out at me. In my opinion, it's a very true example of what photojournalism is and that is getting out there and capturing a moment, a feeling, and an image that speaks great things. This photo was taken in 2005 after an earthquake in Pakistan. Pretty awesome, right?

Tilt Shift. Wow!

This is crazy! This video was made with a tilt shift lens for Disney's Magic Kingdom a few years ago. It took place from sun up to sun down. I can't even begin to imagine how many photos that was! It's awesome though.

Where it all got started...

I was looking through my old pictures today and found this one, the very first picture I ever took. And by first I mean the first one that made me want to start doing it for a living. My friend at the time was pregnant and I wanted to document her pregnancy so I started with this picture on a film camera. I look at it now and see all of the things wrong with it but it's still nice to see what got me started taking photos in the first place.

GTC Holiday Portraits

It's about that time again for the holidays and you know what that means, HOLIDAY PORTRAITS! We are working really hard to make this years set look awesome so I hope everyone can come out and support us and help raise money for our portfolio show next year! Plus, who can resist a cute kid in a Christmas sweater?

"All things are photographable" -Gary Winogrand

Winogrand is by far one of my favorite photographers of all time. His fearless approach or capture a moment is incredible! Most of his work had a photojournalistic style and often times he took and environmental approach to his subjects. I envy him, truly.

PhotoWalk

Photo Walk time! Jayne and I had the opportunity to do a few of these with last years Upper Quarter and I have decided to start doing them with this years Lower Quarter. We're pretty excited about it and so is Lower Quarter. We aren't sure on the location yet but we're working on it. If you have ideas throw them my way!

Portraits!

This was an interesting shoot today. I had to improvise a little bit but I think that the shots turned out pretty fun. Lighting Low Key isn't as easy as I thought it would be but hey, it's all a learning experience. You can see more of the pictures from this shoot on my Flickr soon!

Fall Time!

Fall's here! It's been feeling a little more like winter the past few mornings though. I was reading a photography forum and it had ideas about themes for each month. This month, the themes is "colors." It could be something fun to try being that the leaves are changing and everything. Just an idea, try it.

The "Holy Grail of cameras"

Ah! Canon has done it again and come out with an even better camera, the 1D Mark IV. Wouldn't we all like to have a camera that shoots 12fps? It would be nice. Tomorrow or soon after...if anyone wants to hand out about $5000!

Cruise Cruise Cruise

Home sweet home! The cruise was amazing to say the least. I got some great pictures of the beautiful scenery as well as the very different cultures. There will be more photos to come. You should go check out Rebekahs blog for fun stuff too!

Prison Day Fun

This is a picture I took last year from a photo day that Jayne, Brian, and I did at a prison in Atlanta. Jayne and I are keeping it's location a secret because we like it so much. Haha. I hope to go back soon and get some cool pictures, maybe take a model or something and have fun with it. Places like this are always fun to shoot. Never a dull moment and always a shot to get!

Friday, October 9, 2009

It's that time again for Atlanta Celebrates Photography! While I was looking at all the events and photographers, I noticed that our own (Gwinnett Tech's) Tomeka Pero won 3rd place for "My Atlanta" where photographers entered photos of Atlanta. Pretty cool. I also thought it was was pretty neat that the Portfolio Show was listed on the website as well as the booklet.
There are tons of events going on thru the end of october I believe. It's nice to know that we, as photographers, and the work that we do gets "celebrated" and noticed...
